It is a short grain, white, aromatic sticky rice having a sweet buttery flavour. It derives its name from its usage as the principal ingredient in the preparation of offerings to the Deity. Due to its unique and appetizing aroma, this versatile variety of rice is mainly used for making of Payesh (Rice Kheer), Pulao, Biryani, Khichdi and Muri Ghonto (dish prepared with fish head), an all time favourite of the Bengali community.
